This weekend on Creature Features:

Many of our viewers describe our movies as “dogs.” We certainly can’t blame them. And this weekend they can expect a double-dog treat as we have both a dog movie and a dog guest. First up, we’ll be showing “The Undying Monster” from 1942. This is a nicely-done film with something of a werewolf-motif. While it’s not that Universal wolf-man movie that we all know and love, it is a fitting substitute and you’ve probably seen that other one a thousand times before anyways.

And there really is no better way to watch a canine movie than with a canine guest. Joining us will be Rascal, the ugliest dog in the world. Actually, he’s not really that ugly. He’s simply unique. Like Tangella, only different. Speaking of which, those of you seasoned viewers know quite well that any time we have an animal act on the show, Tangella sticks around the parlor, so expect to see more of her deviousness than usual. And since the dog can’t talk and Tangella won’t talk, we’ll be joined by Rascal’s owner, trainer and manager, the wonderful Dane Andrew. He tell us about all of Rascal’s professional adventures and chat us up about his own acting career. He even starred in a movie we showed a few years back.

This weekend on Creature Features:

When Vincent first acquired the Poulter Manor, it was an abandoned and dilapidated mess teeming with vermin. But with the help of some well-paid carpenters and exterminators, a house once crowded with creepy crawlers eventually became a humble home. But that didn’t change much for the manor’s more widely know reputation - mainly being the most haunted house in Bodega Bay. For that kind of problem, there’s a different kind of craftsman one must hire to eradicate pests from the spirit world. And maybe a Catholic priest as well. And while we won’t have the latter this Saturday, we’ll definitely have the former.

Joining us this weekend will be Tami and Jason from Wandering Spirits Paranormal Investigations. Our WSPI friends will tell us what it takes to be a ghost hunter, demonstrate some of the tools of their trade and tell us about the most fascinating and frightening encounters they’ve had with poltergeists during their travels. They might even chime in with some advice about how Vince might contend with his own Poulter Ghosts.

And what better movie genre to show with ghost hunters than a movie about ghosts? Especially if you can dig one up that is so specific, it is actually named “The Ghost.” Released in 1963, this fun film stars Barbara Steele as an adulterous wife who suddenly finds herself being haunted by her recently-dead husband. Done, we might add, without any of the high-tech gizmos alluded to above. Definitely worth a watch.

This weekend on Creature Features: Giant mutants

This weekend on Creature Features:

Giant mutants were a thing in the 50’s. Spawned by the nuclear age and ancient fables about beanstalks, there were more than a few celluloid tales told about taller-than-normal baddies. Our next show will be no exception as we present for your viewing pleasure, “War of The Colossal Beast” from 1958. This would be the unwarranted sequel to 1957’s “The Amazing Colossal Man” which, to our memory, we’ve never shown here on Creature Features. But we do that sometimes…show sequels without ever presenting the original. And no one seems to complain about it. That, or our Letters Department (when manned by Tangella), simply throws those complains in the trash.

Joining us to watch this fun-filled mutant-extravaganza will be Vince’s friend, Mindy. You might remember her from our last Halloween episode. She was the one on the roller skates. She’ll tell us about her dog training business and show us some of her creations made entirely by dryer lint. It should be quite interesting (insert obligatory air quotes here).

This weekend on Creature Features: Some science

This weekend on Creature Features:

Some science fiction movies reach stellar heights in popularity. Star Wars and Alien to name just a few. Yet others never quite make the grade, fail to launch, perform a belly flop and hit the ground like a lead zeppelin. Of course when it comes to movies of these two types, we here at Creature Features tend to show the latter. And this week is no exception, for we’ll be showing “The Titan Find” from 1985. While this movie unsuccessfully attempted to ride on the coattails of the successful Alien franchise, it’s really not that bad of a film. A little dark and depressing at times, but space itself is always dark and depressing so an extra point goes to the producers for making something a bit more realistic.

And joining us to to watch this new wave-era gem will be the lovely Tracy Plummer, daughter of legendary actor, the late, great Christopher Plummer. She’ll tell us what it was like growing up with a horror legend as a father and provide some insight as to what he was really like when he wasn’t in front of a camera.

You might recall a short time back when we had our former housemate, the lovely Tabitha Thomas on the show. Well before Tabitha moved in with us, her cousin Tiffany occupied the same quarters in the mansion. She decided to move away because, as she put it, “…the ghosts keep stealing my good shampoo.” We assumed it was Tangella, but she insists it wasn’t her. Fair enough since we can gather that ghosts haunt better when their hair is silky and manageable.

In any case, Tiffany will grace the guest chair this week as we watch Messiah of Evil from 1973. This is a fairly good movie that we showed quite some time ago. There’s a few lovely gory scenes, some confusing plot twists and an interesting scene in a supermarket. The latter will shock you most when you see some of the pricing of the food on the shelves. Eating on a budget was easier back then. So was making movies.

This weekend on Creature Features:

It’s not often we have the chance to make an episode like this: We show a movie and the star of that film is our guest. But we’ll be doing exactly that this Saturday night on Creature Features.

For joining us will be the lovely and talented Candace Hilligoss. You remember her as the poor young lady running-in-heels away from vengeful ghouls in between organ concerts from the cult-classic, “Carnival of Souls.” Well, she’ll be joining us again to watch the only other horror film she has ever graced, namely “The Curse of the Living Corpse” from 1964.

This not-so-shabby film is actually pretty good. It has a severed head. And Roy Scheider. And if you know anything about horror films, you know quite well that any film that has both Roy and dismembered body parts is going to be a big hit. Candace will tell us all about the making of this film as well as the true story about how Roy Scheider and his wife threw all of her silverware out her window whilst contending with their pet orangutan.

This weekend on Creature Features: What do Ed Be

This weekend on Creature Features:

What do Ed Begley Jr. from “Best in Show” and Patrick McNee from “The Avengers” have in common? Besides both being really swell guys they also starred together in our next feature: “Dead of Night” from 1977.

This is a wonderful TV-movie created by Dan Curtis who was the brainchild of the fabulous “Trilogy of Terror” movie. You remember that one - with the doll that comes to life and chases some poor woman around her flat as it slashes at her ankles with a steak knife. Written by the world-famous Richard Matheson, this is a fun film comprised of three stories with the penultimate tale being “Bobby” about some poor dead kid burdened with having to contend with the afterlife following his mother’s dabbling in black magic.

Joining us to watch this fantastic movie will be Joe The Bomb-Builder. We’re not entirely sure what exactly is the background on this guy. But Tangella personally invited him so it should be somewhat rather interesting.

This weekend on Creature Features:

If you were to spend any amount of time at the Poulter Mansion, you’d soon learn that when Tangella arrives home from an errand with a soiled frock, it is more than likely that there is now yet another disentombed body part in the household and dirt scattered about the floor of the foyer. This is traditionally followed by a telephone call from a perturbed groundskeeper at one of the many cemeteries in the area followed by a bench warrant hastily issued from the local magistrate.

But not this weekend. For we’ll be joined by the wonderful Constance Smith, a graveyard docent from the nearby city of Santa Rosa who will enlighten us, and particularly Tangella, about the appropriate manner in which to visit a cemetery and pay proper respect to its quiet denizens. She’ll also tell us about the tours she conducts at the world-famous Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay, telling us stories about the many escapes that actually happened on The Rock.

Between chatting about prisoner merrymaking we’ll enjoy a film about criminal hijacking, namely “The Hitch-Hiker” from 1953. While not the typical horror film we customarily put forward, this thriller is a tale about two poor men who come across the wrong fellow with his thumb out. Loosely based on the true story of the Billy Cook murder spree, this classic film-noir gem will be a welcome departure from our usual servings of bug-eyed monsters.

This weekend on Creature Features: Vince often ref

This weekend on Creature Features: Vince often refers to that large contingency of viewers who understandably fall asleep during our broadcast as “dozers.” Little does he know that this is the short-form version of the word “bulldozer.” The fact that this term has evaded him is particularly curious given that he actually owns one of these pieces of heavy-equipment as part of the arsenal of vehicles used to keep the Poulter Mansion Estate in order.

But were this useful soil-moving tool of Vince’s to become possessed by an alien force or, God forbid, driven by Tangella; it would then become something called a Killdozer, which happens to be the title of our next feature.

Starring Clint Walker, Robert Urich and Carl Betz, “Killdozer!” was one of many films that graced the small screen in the 70’s who’s title included an exclamation mark to clarify that it was a movie name and not simply a single-word statement. It’s based on a 1944 novella by Theodore Stugeon that revolves around an alien who decides to possess a bulldozer and inadvertently goes postal on the poor men trying to build an airstrip on a remote island. We have no doubt the book was better. That said, it’s still a fun movie and we think you’ll enjoy it immensely.

Today we're returning to bring you more cult movies along with conversations with guests who share our love of the cult horror classics.
