Those of you who were around in the 1970s know it was a truly unusual time. It woefully lacked the groovy vibe of the 60’s and definitely didn’t have the tech-hipness of the 80’s. But what it lacked from the eras for which it was flanked, it made up for with its own unique elements of style. While often derided for unleashing upon the world such vile hallmarks as “disco” and petrol shortages, the 1970’s did give us the incredible Star Wars and the delightful Farrah Fawcett.

Where this weekend’s movie falls within that spectrum is entirely up to you.

We’ll be presenting “The People” from 1972. It’s hard to tell you much about this film without spoiling it. But here’s a few interesting facts: it was filmed on the west end of Marin County, only a mere 24 miles from The Poulter Mansion in Bodega Bay. It was executive-produced by Francis Ford Coppola, who was too busy finishing The Godfather at the time to direct this one himself. It stars Kim Darby, who you might remember as the stubborn teenager in True Grit. And has what one can only describe as a cameo-plus appearance by William Shatner, who incidentally was again invited to come onto the show as a guest and again ungraciously declined Vincent’s most generous offer. Something silly about having to go into space. Right.
